It’s getting closer and closer.. . /. /. Little One.. . /
This year me and my very good friend Leopold West started writing a short film. Initially intended as a 3min short for a competition about the idea of “boss” it quickly snow balled into a much bigger monster, Thankfully the competition was abandoned and so we were free to take as long as we wanted and to do what we wanted.. .. just the way i like it. We decided to stick with the premise of “boss” as we’d already had more than half the script down. Most of the filming was completed around spring but then a wave of chaos crashed into our tiny little world and we were forced to put the unfinished film on the back burner. At the end of this summer we managed to find a place and time to meet up and get the final shot. With this most important of shots successfully completed it gave a new burst of life and activity to the project… /. /. with Myself in Brighton ,Leopold in Southampton and our very talented sound engineer Joe Gilder at Boneyard audio in Guildford its a wonder this film has made it out at all.. . But it has.. ./. well nearly//. . with only a few more tweaks to add I am very pleased to be a part of this project and can’t wait to release the finished product.. . ///. A month or so ago i was destroyed by the inevitable seasonal virus despite my best hermitage attempts to stay cut off from the world it hit me.. .. really hit me./. …/. As with most distressing things in my life it spawns fantastic ideas.. .. and this is the latest .. ./ .

Finding good wood in Brighton has been much more of a problem than i ever expected, because the wood has been so sparse i had a week or so where i couldn’t find anything. Now i have quite a backlog of paintings to my name now and there’s always those few that slip through that you know you were never quite happy with, i decided that without any new surfaces it would be worth my time going back and rectifying those mistakes.. .. /. I have done quite a few now but here is the first installment of paintings revised.

Today i have been very busy indeed.. ./. ./ Aside from all the other little projects i have going on all over the place, today i decided to document the process of creating a whole batch of Free Art Birds.. . ./.
Phase one.. . / This beautiful piece of hardboard i lifted from a skip last night.. . /. So first i had to see just how many pigeons i could get out of it.. .. 9 is the answer.
Next Chop them up with one of my favorite tools
a circular disk cutter.. . // mm mmm m
And then give them all a quick coat of black.. . Again my
favorite of all colors, And i know the knee jerk response
to that “But its not a color, its a shade!” that may be
in the natural world but when it comes to paint every
single shade / color needs pigment to give it said color,
in my case the color of that pigment is indeed black,
and as i stroke the black paint side to side i am coloring.. . . . /./. Its a color.. . ./.
Phase four, time to get dirty and finger paint .. .. . /.
Finally after the paint is sufficiently dry add the final touches in the form of eyes,beaks and sign off . . ./.
Tomorrow i will post close ups of each one of these little fellows before they go on their individual journeys.. . .. /. Some are going to Portsmouth tomorrow to find new homes, Some are going.. .well im not sure where yet it all depends on who wins the competition tomorrow on Facebook,.I will be running another give away to all those who share and like the links, names drawn from a hat at the end of the week.. . find out more here

I’m sure that most of us when walking the streets pay very little attention to our immediate surroundings and the creatures that we share it with. Most of it gets swept past our eyes and shoved off the pavement as we rush to be somewhere we most likely don’t want to be. These free art birds, in a way are much like you. They are somewhere they don’t want to be too, they also want to go home. So if you happen across one of these stray birds, take them in and they will love you always.. .. ../ .. /.//./ .
