2017. ././ . Its been a seriously long year, its been a seriously tough year and I’m only just reaching the end of the the beginning…
There has been a massive shift and change of course in my art work. The past four years have seen a long and slow decrease in the out put of Original Artworks and a sharp increase in the output of Drawings and Tattoo designs. it has been a conscious effort to pursue a career that allows me to create everyday, change peoples lives and develop as an Artist. I am on the cusp of achieving this goal and becoming a licensed Tattoo Artist, But that’s not the end of the journey it is in fact only the beginning of a new field to explore.
While Painting will always remain a true love of mine, Drawing, Design and Tattooing will be at the forefront of my output now, which has over the past few years given me completely new ideas to explore, New challenges to overcome and new skills to master.. ././. Obsessive followers would have noted of late most of my works of the past year are based around the art of tattoo and graphic design. Many artists go through dramatic changes as their lives influence their decisions and their work. I am one such example../.
I have recently started work as a tattoo apprentice at Black Sails Tattoo Brighton, because of this i am finding less and less time for painting and creating Fine Art, it also means i have less and less space for my previous works and my new work expands and takes over i must make room for such changes. I have always been an advocate of free art, street exhibitions and vandalism, In a fond farewell to some of my earliest “serious” art works i found the perfect place to wave goodbye and grow a little… .. ././. The more i practice for the art of Tattoo the more my half finished ideas of art and expression slip away, today i sought to rekindle one such project, changing the pen for the brush to take on an old adversary
In 2012 i started a series entitled ‘Life In Little Pieces’.
The idea was to create a wall of 12 ‘saints’ all of which have had their place in my life past and future. essentially they are all self portraits /. They would be exhibited in a row, like the imposing art in a christian church, but take on a more gothic and self reflecting tone. Rather than these idols that celebrate the idea of virtue and sacrifice i wanted to focus on the parts of humanity which we might not want to fully admit, misdeed, alienation, heartbreak and ultimately, mortality.
Today’s two new additions means that there is only one more step to complete this long forgotten project././ The hardest step ‘Passing The Seed’./.

For the show fragments i put together a series of prints././ The ideas follow on from my “Virus” series where i became obsessed by pixelated images. I followed on with the same concept of fusing pixels with organic objects, this time using animals as my ‘host’. These images were created using computer manipulated ink drawings./ ./.

Love Birds Free Art Giveaway. /.
As part of the Solo Exhibition Fragments there will be a free art giveaway in the build-up to the show. This side project is based around the theme of the show that everything experienced remembered and observed is fragmented, everything that is can be said to be broken or fractured in some way or made up of different elements. And it is with that in mind that I have painted pairs of ‘Love Birds’ both of these creatures complement and complete each other in a way that for most lovers is just a fantasy. But like everything I see that holds real beauty there is a drama and tragedy to that story and so for these birds it’s the same.
I plan to split up each couple and display them separately. One set of the love birds will be displayed in the warmth and safety of the Jewry street gallery and the other halves of the pigeons I will display around the streets of Winchester exposed to the elements and are destined to be given away for free. But there is hope for each couple, the birds left out in the cold of the urban landscape will hold this message../. .
You’ve found me../. And I’m yours to keep ../ … For free ./ ../
I’m sure that most of us when walking the streets pay very little attention to our immediate surroundings and the creatures we share it with. Most of it gets swept past our eyes and shoved off the pavement as we rush to be somewhere we most likely don’t want to be. These birds, in a way are much like you. They are somewhere they don’t want to be and they want to go home to the one they love. So if you’re the lucky one to happen across one of these stray birds take them in and they will love you always,.. . /. /././ .
Go one step further, for each bird left on the street there is an equal and opposite waiting. Bring them to the show where their loved one awaits.. ./.

The finder will be invited to bring their pigeon to the show on opening night and reunite it with its partner. The pigeons on display at the gallery will be available for sale if the finder wishes to reunite them for good. Other people will be able to buy the pigeons on display even if they have not found the partner but finders will have priority over any bidders.
It is my hope that all the pigeons will find their way back to the show and all the couples will be reunited, once reunited if bought, the finders will be invited to leave the corresponding pigeons with their partners until the end of the show at which point both will be sent to their new home. Through doing this I hope to highlight that when in this fragmented world two pieces fit together it is the most important thing to keep them together. In this drama of being separated, once reunited the pigeons bond and the owners resolve to keep them together will be solidified.

Regulars to my blog would have noted that last Upfest i also painted at the notorious Rock & Bowl hostel, Every Upfest they open up their doors and invite artists from around the world to leave their mark at the hostel. Last year i was honored to be offered a space of my own and leapt on the opportunity https://jakobbelbin.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/rock-n-bowl/ Though this year i was not staying at the hostel, their winsome manager “Matty B” extended the same offer to me once more. This time round i was a year older and had a partner in crime so i went for something completely different and chose a completely different space under the recommendation of Matty B. Its the only dark wall in the hostel and is the entrance to the smoking area. . / ./. These devastating beauty’s are 8 feet tall and were painted in about 2-3hours . /.// // …./ .

What can i really say…/. Apart from thank you to EVERYONE…././. Everyone who came last night, everyone involved in the show and everyone around those involved.././ This show was both mine and Karol Michalecs first show in Brighton and because of you all it was a raging success…. /. The building was full all evening and a buzzing hub of activity …/. Never before has someone elses work complemented mine so well./. Its been incredible to work with such like minded people. This show encompassed all of my favorite elements of fine art… Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Drawing, Collage, Performance and Free Art.
This show wouldn’t have been possible without Karol Michalec, Hazel Stephenson, Gill at The Painting Pottery Cafe, Alexander Glass, Harry (i dont know your full name light man), Lee Belbin and of course the love of my life Frin.. . . /.///.

This exhibition has literally grown and grown from its first conception encompassing fine art, sculpture, performance and interactive free art drops and is set to be a fantastic show… /. The change of season is finally starting to have noticeable effect./. the sun is out and the grass seems greener and it reminds me of a painting i revised a few months ago which you’ve not seen yet….. .. // I went through a bit of a phase of chopping up all those awful paintings i did and making them into something much more interesting so with the change of season in mind and the change of old paintings here is ‘Fall’ revised …. . . /.

So yesterday filming went extremely well…/ .Got all the shots necessary and even had time for a little urban exploring.. / Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the photos of new paintings promised, I’d say that 50% of them are usable so whilst I’m working my way through the pile i am going to be very cruel and post these three paintings which are all revisits to old paintings..//. I never really liked the paintings in the first place so i chopped them up re painted them and put them back together again…… . . . . ./. I have posted pictures of these three pieces over the past month or so but these photos are much better quality../.
But don’t worry your selves i will also do another post this evening of a completely new piece… . One i am very proud of… . /. /.
