For the past two months or so i have been drawing with restraint.. /.. / In preparation for qualifying as a Tattoo Artist i have been stripping back my designs and only using Black Ink. This way the designs should be easily translatable to the skin when i start.. /./.
By restricting the complexity of designs and use of colour i have found new ideas to explore and it has kindled a renewed love for Black Ink and Dark Designs./ ././ .. /

2017. ././ . Its been a seriously long year, its been a seriously tough year and I’m only just reaching the end of the the beginning…
There has been a massive shift and change of course in my art work. The past four years have seen a long and slow decrease in the out put of Original Artworks and a sharp increase in the output of Drawings and Tattoo designs. it has been a conscious effort to pursue a career that allows me to create everyday, change peoples lives and develop as an Artist. I am on the cusp of achieving this goal and becoming a licensed Tattoo Artist, But that’s not the end of the journey it is in fact only the beginning of a new field to explore.
While Painting will always remain a true love of mine, Drawing, Design and Tattooing will be at the forefront of my output now, which has over the past few years given me completely new ideas to explore, New challenges to overcome and new skills to master.. ././. Obsessive followers would have noted of late most of my works of the past year are based around the art of tattoo and graphic design. Many artists go through dramatic changes as their lives influence their decisions and their work. I am one such example../.
I have recently started work as a tattoo apprentice at Black Sails Tattoo Brighton, because of this i am finding less and less time for painting and creating Fine Art, it also means i have less and less space for my previous works and my new work expands and takes over i must make room for such changes. I have always been an advocate of free art, street exhibitions and vandalism, In a fond farewell to some of my earliest “serious” art works i found the perfect place to wave goodbye and grow a little… .. ././. Since i exchanged the brush for the pen my work has changed so dramatically, while it still holds the hallmarks of my fine art, it has grown into a completely different monster. . /./.

Its finished! The biggest drawing i’ve done in a while and the first finished piece of 2015.. . /. . I give you a pirate themed sleeve with a slightly more modern take on it. I’ve mixed up the order and scale of the main themes, where in most sleeve the ship takes center stage, I’ve given credence to the octopus and compass and added a huge abstract paint smear which blends into the waves instead of filling exclusively with flowers and treasure.. ././. .I am very pleased with how its turned out. /

The brief was to include an octopus, a pirate ship, a compass and a pirate pin-up girl./ I decided to keep it quite traditional, so after a bit of research i also included treasure, black roses , an anchor and coral to fill up the gaps and tie the whole piece together./.

After a days work i managed to get pretty much the full outline inked and the blue water/paint smear filled and tidied up./.

Today i took a walk along Brighton beach with a bag of heads.. ././. . ../. Though i felt a bit bad for leaving them there, i didnt think they’d last long and at the very least they’d be returned to a natural origin.. / ./. So my conscience wasn’t too heavy i left with a couple of buckets of beach rubbish, leaving the beach better than i found it.,. . ..// .
These slate paintings were painted over two years ago, from a series of photographs i took at a small intimate gig at the Bargate Monument in Southampton. The head in question was that of Franz Nicolay.. . /. Good bye Nicolay. /.

A recent commission for a good bunch of guys, The guys in question are a local Punk band called Primeval Soup, who as well as preaching against wrong doings in the world and standing up for what they believe in they actually fight it.. ./. Raising money for charity, hunt sabotaging and boycotting . ../. This art work is designed to couple with a track focusing on animal rights, and whilst i am a vegetarian myself i’ve never had the guts to take it as far as these guys.. ./ . More to come. /.

Brighton 2014 Free Art Exhibition
You may remember, if you are a regular follower, the 100 pigeons exhibited in my last show ‘Pecking At The Sidelines’
Last week i set them free in Brighton, sadly but consciously in their most inhabited environment, The window ledges of empty buildings.. . ./.

The more i practice for the art of Tattoo the more my half finished ideas of art and expression slip away, today i sought to rekindle one such project, changing the pen for the brush to take on an old adversary
In 2012 i started a series entitled ‘Life In Little Pieces’.
The idea was to create a wall of 12 ‘saints’ all of which have had their place in my life past and future. essentially they are all self portraits /. They would be exhibited in a row, like the imposing art in a christian church, but take on a more gothic and self reflecting tone. Rather than these idols that celebrate the idea of virtue and sacrifice i wanted to focus on the parts of humanity which we might not want to fully admit, misdeed, alienation, heartbreak and ultimately, mortality.
Today’s two new additions means that there is only one more step to complete this long forgotten project././ The hardest step ‘Passing The Seed’./.
