Today i have been very busy indeed.. ./. ./ Aside from all the other little projects i have going on all over the place, today i decided to document the process of creating a whole batch of Free Art Birds.. . ./.

Phase one.. . / This beautiful piece of hardboard i lifted from a skip last night.. . /. So first i had to see just how many pigeons i could get out of it.. .. 9 is the answer.

Next Chop them up with one of my favorite tools
a circular disk cutter.. . // mm mmm m
And then give them all a quick coat of black.. . Again my
favorite of all colors, And i know the knee jerk response
to that “But its not a color, its a shade!” that may be
in the natural world but when it comes to paint every
single shade / color needs pigment to give it said color,
in my case the color of that pigment is indeed black,
and as i stroke the black paint side to side i am coloring.. . . . /./. Its a color.. . ./.
Phase four, time to get dirty and finger paint .. .. . /.

Finally after the paint is sufficiently dry add the final touches in the form of eyes, beaks and sign off . . ./.

Tomorrow i will post close ups of each one of these little fellows before they go on their individual journeys.. . .. /. Some are going to Portsmouth tomorrow to find new homes, Some are going.. .well im not sure where yet it all depends on who wins the competition tomorrow on Facebook,.I will be running another give away to all those who share and like the links, names drawn from a hat at the end of the week.. . find out more here

And the rest are on a very long journey indeed, they are off to Tel-Aviv to take part in a free art give away in December and you can find out more about that here.. /.

This Easter Sunday there’s going to be a free exhibition in Portsmouth not only is the exhibition free but everything.. .. Everything on display will be free to take away with you. I am really pleased to be a part of this, So many people want original artwork on their walls but most feel it is too expensive to buy or like so many pieces it is just viciously overpriced. There will be 100s of pieces on display from 100s of fantastic artists. So if you’ve always wanted to collect some original art this is the time and place to do it, you may just find your favourite artist of all time. .. …. / . /.

A few weeks ago i had to travel to Portsmouth at my own expense, waste a whole day waiting around in an awful tower block of offices just for the privilege of getting fired. It wasn’t the getting fired that really got me because i truly loathed the job i was in, and so despite the set backs it has since caused i was relieved. What did get me, was when i was sat on their perfect faux leather sofa, hundreds of feet up, in an air conditioned box, surrounded by meaningless pieces of ‘art’ behind frames probably more expensive than the piece itself was the people that inhabit this space and what this space meant.
The droids walk back and forth these halls all day chatting figures or gossiping about their colleagues completely oblivious to their surroundings, the ‘art’ on the walls, it means nothing it barley serves as decoration because its more about what is says, the frame and most importantly the price. All of these pieces of art hidden away just covering up blank spaces because it presents an image of human feeling and success. What i presents to me is a vast flavourless void in which the word art is soiled. The people who bought this ‘art’ probably flicked through a catalogue pointed their finger and quoted numbers to their secretary, Where is the humanity there? And the people who produced it? They most likely did the same thing, flicked through a bunch of pictures from corporate artists pointed at the ‘best ones’ and quoted the numbers to another secretary who sent them off the get mass produced and sold to anyone empty enough to want to purchase them.
The word art seems to mean nothing to most of these people but ironically most of these people are the only ones who can afford real art, it begs the question to stay true and unsuccessful or false and successful? .. .. … . .. … . . . . . … I’m pretty sure i know the answer.
