Brighton 2014 Free Art Exhibition
You may remember, if you are a regular follower, the 100 pigeons exhibited in my last show ‘Pecking At The Sidelines’
Last week i set them free in Brighton, sadly but consciously in their most inhabited environment, The window ledges of empty buildings.. . ./.
They lasted two days. .. ./. I hope they are loved. . /.

There’s been a few hitches and and a few spelling mistakes.. /. But Pecking At The Side Lines is up for a month. /./ 90 pigeons later./. and a whole bunch of new prints and paintings its definitely my most happy show to date./. Whats wrong with me. >?

I’m sure that most of us when walking the streets pay very little attention to our immediate surroundings and the creatures we share it with. Most of it gets swept past our eyes and shoved off the pavement as we rush to be somewhere we most likely don’t want to be. These birds, in a way are much like you. They are somewhere they don’t want to be and they want to go home to the one they love. So if you’re the lucky one happen across one of these stray birds take them in and they will love you always,.. . /. /././ .
Go one step further, for each bird left on the street there is an equal and opposite waiting. Bring them to the show where their loved one awaits.. ./.

As it was announced yesterday i have a new exhibition opening 14th of November../ The exhibition is called ‘Fragments’ and as part of the show i will be dropping pigeons all around Winchester for free!!!./ .. ./ Here is the first wave of pigeons./

As part of I LOVE ART UK (13 women show) i have been invited to exhibit some of my work ad work in the “Spray Your Own Art” section of the stand. I am very pleased to be involved with this local project.. /. i have a bunch of pigeons ready for sale all listed below, as well as whole host of other paintings and prints. I wont be the only person exhibiting so be sure to make your face known and pay us a visit on Sunday 30th June.
If nothing takes your fancy then you can make your own piece of work there and then to take away with you in the “Spray Your Own Art” section. For a single fee you will have your surface, a lot of spray paint and the use of plenty of stencils.. /. Paint your own wooden carved heart, t-shirt or canvas././ Heres a couple of examples i knocked up yesterday, They will of course also be for sale./.

Regulars to my blog would have noted that last Upfest i also painted at the notorious Rock & Bowl hostel, Every Upfest they open up their doors and invite artists from around the world to leave their mark at the hostel. Last year i was honored to be offered a space of my own and leapt on the opportunity https://jakobbelbin.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/rock-n-bowl/ Though this year i was not staying at the hostel, their winsome manager “Matty B” extended the same offer to me once more. This time round i was a year older and had a partner in crime so i went for something completely different and chose a completely different space under the recommendation of Matty B. Its the only dark wall in the hostel and is the entrance to the smoking area. . / ./. These devastating beauty’s are 8 feet tall and were painted in about 2-3hours . /.// // …./ .

What can i really say…/. Apart from thank you to EVERYONE…././. Everyone who came last night, everyone involved in the show and everyone around those involved.././ This show was both mine and Karol Michalecs first show in Brighton and because of you all it was a raging success…. /. The building was full all evening and a buzzing hub of activity …/. Never before has someone elses work complemented mine so well./. Its been incredible to work with such like minded people. This show encompassed all of my favorite elements of fine art… Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Drawing, Collage, Performance and Free Art.
This show wouldn’t have been possible without Karol Michalec, Hazel Stephenson, Gill at The Painting Pottery Cafe, Alexander Glass, Harry (i dont know your full name light man), Lee Belbin and of course the love of my life Frin.. . . /.///.
This is the start of a beautiful friendship and you can all expect to see the Belbin and Michalec name joined in the future… . ./.

For the run up of ‘Just Because Things Break, Doesn’t Mean They’re Broken’ as well as the free art drops, yesterday Myself, Karol Michalec and my beautiful girlfriend went flyer’ing around Brighton../ with a slightly more dramatic twist en-keeping with the exhibitions theme, we all dressed as post nuclear war geisha. .. //. This exhibition has literally grown and grown from its first conception encompassing fine art, sculpture, performance and interactive free art drops and is set to be a fantastic show… /. So get excited and come along on the 16th of April to ‘Just Because Things Break, Doesn’t Mean They’re Broken’

They Were Broken…/. But Still Loved/ … /.
A bit of a delay with this post, totally my fault for not retrieving the photos in time../ .But last week was the trial run of ‘F i n d M e’ a free art give away which if it went well will co inside with my new solo show ‘Just Because Things Break, Doesn’t Mean They’re Broken’ and it went very well indeed…. ./ ./
Last week i dropped 30 original pieces of broken pottery around Brighton Uni, and asked those who found them to bring them back at the end of the week to try and reassemble them into some sort of big fractured piece of art. I only expected about 5 to come back but nearly half of the pieces came back! which means that went i do the full run of 300 pieces in April around 150 should come back (if that’s not too presumptuous)Â Below are some photos of all the pieces that went out../ coming soon will be pictures of them actually out, and some pictured of those lovely people who brought them back….. . . /. A huge thanks to all who took the time to bring them back and to Hazel Stephenson and Karol Michalec for being such a tremendous help… . /////. /
